For Sherry and Ashley, it was important that their wedding be fun, personal, and full of love. And was it ever.
They're both from the Midwest and really wanted a farm wedding that could be both lowkey and elegant. They decided on the Smith Barn at Brooksby Farm as soon as they saw it. They loved the natural beauty of the apple orchard and the vibrancy of the restored red barn. Plus, the big lawn overlooking the orchard would be perfect for lawn games!
The ceremony was held in a garden across the street from the barn. The goal for the ceremony space was to keep it simple and focused on the reason we were all there: Ashley and Sherry vowing to love and support each other forever! We lined the aisle with shepherds hooks and hung jars of freshly picked flowers from them (some of which we picked ourselves the day before). Then we hung white paper flower garland from the arbor, creating a backdrop for the ceremony.
Ashley's Aunt Sue makes delicious pepper jelly in MIchigan so they decided to use that as the guest favors. We cut out three different floral fabrics to secure under the jar lids and then tied a raffia bow around the jar for the final touch. The escort cards were kraft paper tags strung from antique picture frames.
In choosing decorations for inside the barn, the couple wanted the styling to be colorful with a rustic and vintage flair, incorporating antiques and homemade decorations as much as possible.
For the centerpieces, we collected vintage apothecary bottles and sugar and creamer sets, and arranged them with tree cookies, votives, white pots with succulents, and blue Ball jars filled with wildflowers. We hung fabric bunting made by Ashley's mom across the barn dance floor for another splash of color.
For dinner Sherry and Ashley chose a tasty BBQ buffet (the steak tips were amazing). They aren't really cake people and wanted to do something unique for the dessert option so we set up a whoopie pie bar! We offered six varieties and decorated them with tiny bunting and little flags with celebratory phrases. The guests loved the whoopies!
We all love the photobooth trend so we created a backdrop using ribbon curtain and paper bunting, and included fun props for guests, like mustaches, glasses, and chalkboard signs to write the couple messages.
It was certainly a fun, love-filled wedding.
Words of advice from Ashley & Sherry: Really think about your choices. You don't have to do anything. Fill your day with as many personal touches as you can. It was so special having our friends and family involved in almost every aspect of our day (in a way that wasn't stressful). And then just remember to breathe and enjoy every moment.
